ACE Schools Programme

wcdlThe ACE Schools Programme helps schools to work with the whole school community to promote health amongst children. The programme uses a simple award scheme (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) to help schools to mark their progress in 3 areas of health, namely:
· Healthy eating & Dental health

· Physical Activity

· Mental Health

Practical ideas and work samples from other ACE Schools are provided to help schools to successfully promote health. In addition, classroom resources and year-round support from an ACE Schools Supporter is available.
The ACE Schools Programme is a joint collaboration between the Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service of the Health Service Executive and Westmeath Community Deevelopment, and is part of the Health Promoting Schools Initiative.

 

HOW DOES A SCHOOL GET INVOLVED IN THE ACE PROGRAMME? Please contact community.dietitians@hse.ie to register your interest in the programme.

 

Once interest is expressed, you will be contacted by our service, and any questions you have on the programme will be answered.

 

WHAT ASSISTANCE DOES AN ACE SCHOOL RECEIVE?

 

To help a school to work through the programme, the following resources are offered:

 

1. Hands-on assistance from a qualified ACE School Supporter

 

2. Comprehensive programme handbook with practical ideas and easy-to-follow instructions

 

3. Straightforward lesson books for use in the classroom

 

4. Resources available on loan to accompany the classroom handbooks

 

5. Tooth model available on loan

 

6. Reuseable sports-capped water bottles (500ml) available free-of-charge for all pupils
