CELEBRATION OF NEW HOME VISIT SERVICE IN ATHLONE

Westmeath Community Development’s Home Visit Service recently celebrated its first year anniversary. The Home Visit which is run in conjunction with Cairdeas, who are a group of agencies in the Athlone Area working with Older People,is a project within Westmeath which aims to combat isolation and loneliness felt by the Older People in Urban and Rural Areas of Westmeath.

The Home Visit Service was rolled out the Home Visit Service as a Pilot Scheme in Athlone town in the second quarter of 2013 and since then over 100 visits have been completed. Many of the Older People availing of the Home Visit Service are individuals who are living alone and are isolated as a result of family emigrating or moving away to other areas.

The Home Visit Service has recently marked its first year anniversary. To celebrate this anniversary Westmeath Community Development hosted a celebration in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone. This event brought together the volunteers who volunteer their time for both the Care and Repair and Home Visits.
