Celebrating Pride of Place in Westmeath

Pride of Place is an all-island competition that acknowledges the work that communities are doing all over Ireland

In Westmeath, 3 projects will represent the county at the national Pride of Place competition which will take place on 30th November in Kilkenny.

The village of Ballinahown is one of the nominees going forward to the national competition. On 7th August last, the community of Ballinahown showcased it many projects and initiatives to the judging panel. Projects include the creation of a Butterfly Garden and using upcycled materials to create art displays.

Sarsfield Square in Athlone was also nominated to represent Westmeath in the estate category of the Pride of Place competition. The Residents committee in Sarsfield Square put on a great display of their local projects for the judging panel.

The final nominee representing Westmeath is the Age Friendly Network, which support various initiatives for older people throughout the county including Care & Repair and Befriending programmes.

Westmeath Community Development wishes all the nominees the very best of luck at the national finals in November and congratulates each of them on their great achievements to date.
