Social Innovation Fund - Here Comes the Girls

SIFI Logos

The ‘Here Comes the Girls Programme’ will work with over 120 females from Westmeath over the next 3 years. The programme will remove barriers that exist for many females that prevent and discourage some from taking part in training and upskilling such as childcare costs, lack of transport, uncertainty and lack of prior training and/or work experience. Each course will offer women an opportunity to gain relevant labour market training and qualifications in roles that are in high demand in the following industries: retail, hospitality & care. Westmeath Community Development (WCD) will target:

  • women who took a career break
  • brand new female entrants to the workplace
  • female dependants on their partners social protection claim
  • females in part time employment

Social Innovation Fund of Ireland (SIFI) funding will support and make it possible for WCD to identify the above women and offer them opportunities to achieve economic empowerment by giving them chances to participate in employability training, educational and labour market courses, capacity building activities. In addition WCD will provide direct links to employers seeking the training and employability skills the females engaging under this programme have achieved.
