Recently Community Mothers throughout Athlone, Mullingar and Longford gathered to meet and exchange stories of their experiences of volunteering as Community Mothers.
Many of the exchanges at the recent Gatherings emphasized the contributions that Community Mothers make in reducing the isolation and stress many parents experience, also the gratitude experienced by the families that the service exists and the mutual benefit that both community mothers and parents gain from the service.
The Community Mothers service Longford/Westmeath which is funded by the HSE, includes Community Mothers originally from towns throughout the Midlands as well as from other countries including Poland, Nigeria and Bulgaria. Joe Potter CEO of Westmeath Community Development is proud of the work of the volunteers who are giving back so much to the local community. Nearly one hundred families are in receipt of this service.
