Course aim: This course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of roles in the hospitality industry.

Who should apply: Anyone who is currently unemployed and on a DSP payment and interested in working in the hospitality industry. Aimed at youth unemployed aged between 18 and 30 years.

There are eight units of study:

Unit 1: Beverage Service FETAC 5   Unit 2: Licensed Trade Law FETAC 5 
Unit 3: Restaurant Skills FETAC 5 Unit 4: Occupational First Aid FETAC 5
Unit 5: Accommodation Techniques FETAC 5 Unit 6: HACCP
Unit 7: Employment skills Unit 8: Health & Safety

Assessment of Learning:

All participants will be required to undertake the following Assessment Methods for the above modules: Written theory assignments, Practical skills demonstrations and Exams

Venue: Course delivered from Athlone Civic Centre & local hotel

Practical work: Learners will gain practical experience in a hotel environment, as aspects of the training will take in a bar, restaurant and accommodation department of a local hotel Athlone.

Duration & Time: 18 weeks full time Monday to Friday from 10 to 4 pm (including 4 weeks compulsory work experience)

Start date: Monday 15th September 2014 to January 2015

Number of places: 14 places on course

Eligibility criteria: Individuals (18 to 30 years of age) who are unemployed and in receipt of a Department of Social Protection payment

Educational level: Junior Certificate or equivalent and/or individuals with prior experience or learning in this area.

Only individuals interested in working in this industry should apply, 100 % attendance on course is required. Participants may qualify for a DSP top up training allowance, subject to full attendance and completion.

o Information day - 21st August @ 11 am in Athlone Community Taskforce

o Interviews - Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th of September
