Bespoke Retail Course

wcdlWestmeath Community Development in conjunction with Guineys, Department of Social Protection and RAPID  Delivers Bespoke Retail Course

Course aim: This course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of roles in retail sector and will provide specific training in Guineys product range. Guineys have 9 different stores across Ireland and soon they will be trading from Castle Street Mullingar.  WCD are delighted to have been offered the opportunity to work with them in their recruitment process and having carried out consultation with their stores in Dublin, Limerick and Tralee, have created a training course that will equip potential applicants in the skills, knowledge and attributes Guineys are looking for.

If you are considering applying for a job or have applied for a job with Guineys, one of Irelands leading family owned department store chains, then this course is for you.  Participation on the course will significantly improve your job application and preparation process, you will improve your interview skills, gain first hand an in-depth understanding of the stores different departments and product range and may help you secure a winning interview with Michael Guiney. 

Who should apply: Anyone who is currently unemployed and on a DSP payment   

There are 7 units of study:

Unit 1  Customer Service                                           

Unit 2: Guiney’s department & products

Unit 3: Visual merchandising and window dressing      

Unit 4: Occupational First Aid FETAC 5

Unit 5: Drapery, fabric, linen marking & cutting          

Unit 6: Manual Handling       

Unit 7: Health & Safety


Location: Mullingar Westmeath Community Development Training Dept  

Duration& Time: 4 weeks full time Monday to Friday from 10 to 4 pm

Start date: Monday 12th January 2015  Number of places: 15 places on course

Eligibility criteria: Individuals 18 years + who are unemployed & in receipt of a Department of Social Protection payment

Only individuals interested in working in this industry should apply, 100 % attendance on course is required.  Participation on course does not entitle you to a job with Guineys but successful completion will considerably improve your chances of securing an interview.

  • Interviews for course place  - Wednesday 7th January 2015
