Care Skills Course
Westmeath Community Development (WCD) in partnership with the Department of Social Protection, RAPID and Longford Westmeath Educational & Training Board (LWETB), offers FETAC Care Skills Course to unemployed individuals from Mullingar.
Course aim: This course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment.
Who should apply: Anyone who is currently unemployed and on a DSP payment and interested in working with the older person or healthcare environment.
Course content and learning outcomes: The course will provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and skills to care for clients in a number of care environments.
There are 7 units of study:
Unit 1: Manual Handling Unit 2: Patient Handling
Unit 3: Occupational First Aid FETAC 5 Unit 4: Care Skills FETAC 5
Unit 5: Child Protection (HSE) Unit 6: Person Centred Dementia Care
Unit 7: A Person Centred Approach to Challenging Behaviour
Assessment of Learning:
The purpose of this course is to equip individuals with the knowledge, skill and competence to work effectively in the care industry. All participants will undertake the following Assessment Methods for the above modules:
- Written theory assignments
- Practical skills demonstrations
Venue: Course delivered from Westmeath Community Development Training Rooms, Clonmore Business Park, Mullingar.
Duration& Time: Thirteen weeks Tuesday to Friday from 9.30 to 1.30 pm.
Start date: September 10th 2013.
Number of places: 12 places on course
Eligibility criteria: Individuals (18 years +) who are unemployed and in receipt of a Department of Social Protection payment (FIS not eligible) and interested in securing work in the care industry.
Educational level: Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or individuals with prior experience or learning in this.
Only individuals interested in working in the care industry should apply, 100 % attendance on course is required. Participants may qualify for a DSP top up training allowance, subject to attendance and completion.
