Water Meter Installation Course Completed
Introduction of water metres may be silver lining for 45 Water Metre course participants!
WCD through the Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP) are constantly looking for opportunities to deliver unique training courses that will result in the creation of employment. An emerging sector that has potential for employment is the area of water metering. The introduction of water metres in the coming years is expected to provide employment opportunities in the short term in the installation of the metres, and in the maintenance of the metres in the longer term. With this in mind, WCD enlisted the skills of Chevron Training and Development to deliver an accredited training programme for 45 participants in 2 centres in Athlone and Mullingar. The course objective was to provide learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to competently install a range of water meters.
The course participants were selected from clients of WCDL’s employment mediation services and from the TUS programme. Proper accreditation in this field is an essential requirement for future employment. Therefore, the participants received accreditation from the European Registration Scheme for Personnel Competence. The training consisted of practical training carried out in Chevrons specially equipped training vehicle. Participants then had to complete practical and written examinations in order to get their accreditation. The completion of the course has resulted in all participants understanding the requirements for fitting water meters. They are accustomed to the different methods of fitting water meters. They can also undertake meter repair and maintenance work.
