Recent Disability/Older Persons Services & Info Day - 02/12/19
Westmeath Community Development hosted its annual FREE Disability/Older Persons Services and Information event in The Mullingar Park Hotel on Monday December 2nd 2019 from 11am to 2.30pm. The event yet again was a huge success with over 200 people in attendance and 45 different service providers, some of whom were there for the first time.
Guest speakers were Finola Colgan from Mental Health Ireland, Davina from the Alzheimer’s society of Ireland, who also had their mobile bus at the hotel, Veronica Barret from RHS Homecare in Roscommon, looking to branch out in Westmeath, Maureen McCormack from Active Retirement Ireland, who also spoke about the Age Friendly strategy in Westmeath. Mark Aherne Chairperson of Independent People with Disabilities, WCD Chairperson Dermot Leavy thanked everyone for attending and acknowledged the huge commitment of all the agencies participating. Junior Minister Kevin Boxer Moran told the crowd he looks forward to the event every year and is delighted to be able to bring the sectors issues and concerns back to his colleagues in the Dail. He also entertained the crowd with his game of heads and tails! Last but not least the delightful Olive Kennedy showed everyone how they can exercise by sitting in a chair. This was great fun.
The date was chosen as it coincides with EU Day for Disability. It was funded by Westmeath Community Development, Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP) in conjunction with Independent People with Disabilities and Westmeath County Council.
Linda-Jo Quinn and her team would like to thank everyone who took part and assisted in any way with the smooth running of the event. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon.
