Westmeath Community Development (WCD) Enterprise & Employment Mediation Service

We have trained career, employment and information mediators who can provide you with the help you need to reach your training, employment or self employment goals. Services are free and available to all.

We will help you find the tools and resources to help with your job search through the following activities:

  • One to one employment and self employment mentoring support
  • Self-marketing skills, motivation & confidence building, skills and training analysis support/training
  • CV preparation tailored to suit employers needs.
  • Identifying, defining and transferring your skills set from one career to another
  • Guided job search & research skills training and supports
  • Interview prep and training specific to job type and application
  • Links to employers, other local support services e.g. Dept Social Protection, FAS, VEC, CEB, training and work placement opportunities
  • Information and support on labour market trends, areas of growth etc
  • Enterprise, business start up support e.g. business appraisals, business plans, applications for BTWEA payment, grants and loan funds e.g. LEADER, CEB, WCD grants.
  • Access and  referral to CEB 3 day Business Appraisal Programme
  • Access and referral to WCD/FAS 6 month Business Start Up Programme

Our mediators can help you develop a training, employment or self employment business start up plan and take supported steps to matching your interests, experience and abilities with current training, employment and self employment options that are available to you. Services are tailored to meet the individual training & employment needs of each client.

Anyone who is currently unemployed and interested in working in the healthcare environment.

Course content and learning outcomes

The course will provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and skills to care for people in a number of care environments.

There are 12 units of study:

Unit 1:             Manual Handling                                   Unit 2:    Patient Handling

Unit 3:             Occupational First Aid FETAC 5             Unit 4:    Care Skills FETAC 5

Unit 5:             Child Protection (HSE)                          Unit 6:    Person Centred Dementia Care

Unit 7:             Palliative Care FETAC 5                        Unit 8:    HACCP                                 

Unit 9 :            SNA FETAC 5                                        Unit 10:  Employability Skills

Unit 11:           Infection Control FETAC 5                  

Unit 12:           A Person Centred Approach to Challenging Behaviour

Assessment of Learning:

Participants will be required to submit written assignments and undertake practical skills tests

 Venue:                             Westmeath Community Development Training Rooms Mullingar

Duration & Time:             16 weeks Tuesdays to Friday 10 am to 4 pm

Start date:                       15th December 2015

Number of places:            12

Eligibility criteria:            Individuals (17 years +) who are unemployed

Educational level:            Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or individuals with prior experience or learning in the care industry.

  • 100% attendance on course required

Free Bus to the Jobs Fair!!

Westmeath Community Development are providing a free bus to take people to the Midlands Jobs Fair on Tuesday 3rdNovember in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone. Many Midland employers will be exhibiting at the event and providing information on their current and up and coming vacancies, in addition there is free CV and interview supports available on the day.

 

The Bus route is as follows:

Departing Tuesday 3rd November              

9.30 am               Westmeath Community Development Mullingar Office, Clonmore Industrial Estate.

9.45                      Centra, Rochfortbridge. 

10                          SWEETS Kilbeggan.

10.20                    Supervalu, Moate.

 

Return journey departing from Radisson Blu Hotel Athlone at 1 pm arriving back in Mullingar at 2 pm .

The Department of Social Protection website carries information on available positions; full time, part time and work placement opportunities. On the 11th of August, over 300 full time and part time positions were advertised on the site, along with vacancies for employment programme such as Community Employment, Jobsbridge and TÚS.

Care Skills Course

Westmeath Community Development (WCD) in partnership with the Department of Social Protection, Westmeath LCDC and Longford Westmeath Educational& Training Board (LWETB), offers FETAC Care Skills Course to jobseekers

Who should apply: Anyone who is currently unemployed and on a DSP payment and interested in working in the healthcare environment.

Course content and learning outcomes: The course will provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and skills to care for clients in a number of care environments.

There are 10 units of study:

Unit 1: Manual Handling                             Unit 2: Patient Handling
Unit 3: Occupational First Aid FETAC 5       Unit 4: Care Skills FETAC 5

Unit 5: Child Protection (HSE)                    Unit 6: Person Centred Dementia Care

Unit 7: A Person Centred Approach to Challenging Behaviour

Unit 8: HACCP                                           Unit 9 : SNA FETAC 5

All participants will undertake the following Assessment Methods for the above modules:

  • Written theory assignments  & practical skills demonstrations

          12 places on course

Eligibility criteria:       Individuals (18 years +) who are unemployed and interested in securing work in the care industry.

Education level:          Leaving Certificate or equivalent and/or individuals with prior experience or learning in the care industry.

 

Only individuals interested in working in the care industry should apply, 100 % attendance on course is required.

  • Garda Vetting
  • Interview
