Employment and Enterprise under Local and Community Development Programme 2014
The 2014 Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP) finished on December 31st. This programme is managed by WCD in Co. Westmeath.
It aims to tackle poverty and social exclusion through partnership and constructive engagement between Government and its agencies and people in disadvantaged communities. LCDP is a key tool of Government in providing employment supports, training, personal development/capacity building and other supports for the harder to reach in the most disadvantaged areas in society. It is a locally accessible, frontline intervention, supporting disadvantaged communities.
During 2014 we worked with 916 people under the programme, the vast majority of these unemployed individuals on the live register. We assisted 68 people to secure employment, and a further 155 people to establish new businesses, under the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance schemes run by the Dept. of Social Protection.
We assisted approximately 200 people to take up various activation schemes, such as Community Employment, TÚS and JobBridge.

The LCDP is managed nationally by POBAL on behalf of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
