Voluntary Community Group

Skills Workshops


The aim of these workshops is to empower community groups to develop the skills necessary to identify their needs, and carry out effective actions for change in their communities. Sessions details are;

  • May 4th 7-9.30 pm Understanding Your Community— Developing a community profile and needs analysis. Identifying needs for future developments in your community. ( Facilitator -Theresa Geoghegan)
  • May 11th 7-9:30pm Committee Skills– Identifying key roles of committee and group members, whilst exploring good practice for committees, guidance on running effective meetings and essential team work skills (Facilitator- Trisha O Rourke)
  • May 18th 7-10pm Fundraising– Identifying and running effective fundraising initiatives & Developing strategic plans (Facilitator-Kevin Delaney Academy Street Workshop)
  • May 25th 6:30-10pm Good Governance& Charity Regulations– Exploring the Governance Code for Community , Voluntary and Charitable organisations. Requirements for your group to be compliant & how to register for the Charity Regulatory Authority (Facilitator from The Wheel).


Workshops will take a place at Westmeath Community Development, E.T,I Cntr, Mullingar Business Park. Mullingar.

Clann Credo seminar on Financing Westmeath Communities 22/02/17

Clann Credo is hosting an information seminar on Financing Community Growth – Loans, Grants, Fundraising at the Milltownpass Community Centre on Wednesday the 22
nd February from 7-9pm.

Clann Credo is Ireland’s leading provider of community loans to voluntary groups, charities, social enterprises and amateur sports clubs. Clann Credo is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and to mark this milestone a series of community events will take place across the country. Since 1996, Clann Credo has invested over €82 million in community organisations throughout Ireland.

The speakers on the evening will include;

  • Roisin Mulligan Social Finance Officer for Clann Credo in the Midlands Region, who will discuss Community Loan Finance and how it can assist communities applying for LEADER Grants that require Bridging loans and Matching Funding.
  • Annette Barr-Jordan, Support Worker with Westmeath Public Participation Network (PPN) will present on the role of the PPN and the range of supports available.
  • Theresa Geoghegan, Community Development Worker with Westmeath Community Development will present on the Rural Development Programme (LEADER 2014-2020) and other grant programmes for communities.
  • Justin McDermott, Fundraising Manager at Jigsaw, Galway will share some tips and fundraising strategies.
  • Members of Milltownpass Community Action Group will talk about their experience of applying for Community Loan Finance to bridge LEADER grants and match grant funds in the development of Milltownpass Community Centre.

The seminar will be free and open to all members of the community to attend.

Rural Development Programme - LEADER 2014-2020

leader2014-2020LEADER is a community led approach to local development funded through Ireland’s Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. It supports locally identified initiatives that seek to address locally identified needs and challenges. It is delivered in each region by a Local Action Group (LAG). In County Westmeath this is Westmeath Local Community Development Committee (WLCDC) in partnership with Westmeath County Council (WCC) as the Financial Partner and Westmeath Community Development (WCD) as the Implementing Partner. WCD provides direct support to potential applicants seeking funds under the LEADER Programme.

LEADER 2014-2020 covers the geographically area of County of Westmeath, funding of €7,384,205 will cover a number of themes outlined in the Westmeath Local Development Strategy for the duration of the programme. The Programme includes a number of themes and sub themes that reflect the overarching needs of rural Ireland.
