Training Opportunity: DISABILITY AWARENESS QQI LEVEL 6 (6N1975)

WCD without LTDWho should apply: The course is suitable for those who are working in the social care, healthcare sector, or with those with intellectual disabilities. Or anyone studying towards a healthcare award.

WCD offering this course to support individuals gains the relevant qualifications and skills to work in this industry and as always the course is FREE to all.

Duration: 4 full days in a classroom setting. Learners will be required to complete self-study and assignments outside of class time. Status: Component (Elective) Credit Value: This component award is worth 15 ECTS credits Certification: A Certificate in Disability Awareness 6N1975  

Aim: The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the models and types of disabilities and the legal and social structures and services in place to accommodate disabilities at national and community level and in the workplace.

Participant Profile:

Work Experience: Learners may complete their Work Experience in their place of employment if they have the opportunity to observe and support persons with disabilities. Garda Vetting will be required.

Entry Requirement: Learners must have completed a minimum of a Level 5 certificate of education and ideally have some experience of working with persons with disabilities.

Course Dates:                May  23rd, 30th, June 6th & 13th  from 10 am to 4 pm

Location:                        Westmeath Community Development, Mullingar

Assessment of Learning:

All participants will undertake the following Assessment Methods for the above modules:

  • Written theory assignments
  • Learner Record

Learners receive assessment briefs and guidance in completing assessments Learning Supports: A range of supports and accommodations are available for learners with specific needs. One to one tutorials and email support sessions are available during the course.

Resources: Learners will log on to the online Learning Management System and access their training material including a Learner Handbook, Course Manual, Assessment documentation, and other training material.
