TUS Progamme

Westmeath Community Development is the Westmeath agent for the Tús initiative. Tús was announced in the Budget 2011 and launched by Minister Ó Cuiv on 21^st December 2010. Tús aims to provide short term, quality work opportunities for those who are unemployed.

While the responsibility for the operation of Tús rests with the Department of Social Protection it will be managed on a local level by Westmeath Community Development on the Department’s behalf.

Participants will be identified by the Department of Social Protection and if they are eligible their local department will contact them. Places are limited so not everyone who is eligible will be contacted. To be eligible for a Tús placement you must meet the following requirements:

Continuously unemployed for at least 12 months
Signing on a full time basis
In receipt of a jobseeker’s payment from the Department of Social Protection for at least 12 months
Currently in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance
